What is FIRST?
FIRST is an international youth organization that operates as a non-profit public charity corporation. It licenses qualified teams, usually affiliated with schools or other youth organizations, to participate in competitive robotics. Its expressed goal is to develop ways to inspire students in engineering and technology fields. Its philosophy can be expressed as “Coopertition and Gracious Professionalism”. Among the programs which it operates are the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). I was a team member of Team 3583 Cybirds which competed under FTC.
What is the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)?
The FIRST Tech Challenger (FTC) is a mid-level robotics competition. Teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. FTC robots are approximately one-third the scale of their FRC counterparts, thus FTC teams usually consist of around 10-15 members while FRC teams usually consist of around 50-60 members. Cybirds Rebranding
Background Information
Prior to the 2018-2019 season. FTC Team 3583 operated under the moniker "Power Hawks".
In an effort to mitigate potential confusion with our FRC counterpart of the same name, a decision was made to rebrand the team to be known as the "Cybirds". This involved the creation of a brand new logo and t-shirt design.
